USAID-supported SEE University establishes an endowment

On October 18, Macedonia’s South East European University (SEEU) and Indiana University (IU) signed an agreement to establish an ongoing relationship between the two universities. SEEU was established in 2001, with nearly $20 million of US Government investment. Since then, it has grown to become a highly successful model of a multi-ethnic, multi-lingual university in the Balkan region. In September 2007, USAID/Macedonia’s Higher Education Linkage Project came to an end, marking the conclusion of seven years of USAID-funded collaboration in faculty and program development between IU and SEEU.

The new agreement will establish an endowment to be funded by SEEU to foster continuing exchange between the two universities. During the five-year agreement, income from the endowment will be used to support the exchange of faculty between the two universities as well as, possibly, to provide funding for degree studies at IU for SEEU junior faculty. SEEU will initiate the Endowment with a commitment of approximately US $1,000,000.
