Minister of Finance Trajko Slaveski, Director of the Public Procurement Bureau Mare Bogeva-Micovska and U.S. Deputy Chief of Mission Thomas Navratil present the new Law on Public Procurement
USAID Business Environment Activity and e-Government Project played a key role in the development of the new Law on Public Procurement in the Republic of Macedonia. The new law, which increases transparency of tendering procedures, provides consistency with other legislation and strengthens the legal protection of bidders, was adopted by the Macedonian Assembly on November 6, 2007.

“The new law enhances the integrity of the Government’s purchasing decisions, which will improve Macedonia’s reputation in the area of corruption and attract trade and investment partners,” said U.S. Deputy Chief of Mission Thomas Navratil at the ceremony, which attracted over 300 participants.
“However, only fair, transparent and efficient implementation will bring the desired benefits.”

SAID Business Environment Activity has been working with the Ministry of Finance and the Public Procurement Bureau since the beginning of the project in 2006 to develop and facilitate adoption of this law. It will continue to work with these key Government counterparts to ensure the efficient implementation of the law – an important step forward to the harmonization of Macedonia’s legislations with EU standards.
