Workshop on updating the CEA Macro Model

The Center for Economic Analysis (CEA) is an independent and unbiased think-tank that plays a key role in public policy debates and generates high quality macroeconomic analysis.

In 2003, through the USAID Participant Training Program, CEA developed a comprehensive macroeconomic forecasting model that allowed key economic players to set priorities, conduct strategic planning and prepare budgets.

In 2007, with the help of two USAID projects - Business Environment Activity and Human and Institutional Development Program – and in cooperation with Dutch experts, CEA team upgraded the original MacroABC Model to an operational version applicable to the Macedonian economy, similar to the financial programming model used by the International Monetary Fund. The Center has already used the model, now called the CEA Macro Model, to analyze nine publicly released Government initiatives.

By using this model, CEA assesses the consistency and “price tag” of economic programs proposed or implemented by various political parties. The main goal, however, is to enhance the quality and strengthen the discipline of public debate on macroeconomic issues, and to offer unique and realistic analyses of Government initiatives. Once a month, analyses by CEA are featured in the weekly economic magazine Kapital.
